天美影视 Interim Dean selected Chair of 天美影视 Council of Graduate Deans

Lisa C. Colvin, interim dean of 天美影视鈥檚 Graduate School, will serve as statewide chair of the 2009 Annual Meeting of the 天美影视 Council of Graduate Deans. The Council is a consortium of Deans in 天美影视 who meet annually to discuss significant items of interest affecting graduate schools at the state and national level.

The meeting will be held Oct. 15-16, 2009, at 天美影视.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a huge honor for 天美影视 to host this event on our campus, since we鈥檝e never hosted it before,鈥� said Colvin. 鈥淕raduate school deans from all of 天美影视鈥檚 institutions of higher education, both public and private, will be here.鈥�

Northwestern State University in Natchitoches hosted the most recent gathering, where Colvin gave a presentation on the challenges and opportunities facing graduate assistants at 天美影视鈥檚 universities.

鈥淥ur Council explored institutional incentive packages currently offered at universities within the state, and we realized that we are underfunding our graduate assistants compared to the rest of the region,鈥� she said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a challenge, especially in these economic times.鈥�

Added Colvin, 鈥淗owever, we鈥檙e going to have to develop ways to deliver those incentives, so we can continue recruiting the best and brightest graduates to our universities.鈥�

Included in Colvin鈥檚 many duties as interim Dean is helping to raise endowment funds to entice graduate students to 天美影视.

Colvin said she is honored by her appointment as Council chair and will continue to set 天美影视 apart as a special place for graduate students who want to advance their education.
