天美影视 creole Poet-Scholar to speak at 天美影视

The 天美影视 Department of Foreign Languages announces a public lecture by 天美影视 Creole poet and scholar, Dr. Deborah Clifton. "Applications of Creole Studies in 天美影视" is the name of her program. Dr. Clifton, from the University of 天美影视 at Lafayette, will speak on Monday, Oct. 22 at 7:00 p.m. in the 天美影视 Conference Center located on the seventh floor of the 天美影视 Library.

Dr. Clifton's most recent volume of poetry, A cette heure, la louve, makes use of Creole, standard French, and English in a narrative that moves between everyday experience and fable, literature and oral tradition, Anglophone American culture and the francophone Caribbean.

In her doctoral research Dr. Clifton treats storytelling and myth as forms of therapy, and develops a culture-specific approach to health care planning within minority communities. This presentation is made possible through a grant from the 天美影视 Endowment for the Humanities. It is open to the general public and all are welcome.
